Crafting Impactful Stories: Coaching in the World of Publishing
What does Iconic mean to you?
Iconic means to be groundbreaking.
What are the key elements you emphasize to your clients when starting their journey in magazine or book publishing?
Key elements are to be clear about who your target audience is. There is no need to create a magazine or book if you are not sure who you want to read it. Just be clear.
How do you tailor your coaching to address the unique challenges and goals of each individual you work with?
I tailor my coaching by doing an intake quiz to make sure we are a good fit. If there are things I can’t work with you on, I can refer you to other people. If we are compatible, then I let you know my expectations, and what I can help you with. I’m pretty straightforward. I provide homework and weekly expectations.
Could you share a success story coaching an aspiring publisher or author?
Currently, I have a student who launched her own magazine. She is doing great. She came to me for a regular feature and ended up becoming my student. We are still collaborating today because she has now been featured as a cover girl. It’s rewarding.
What are the most important skills or qualities that a successful magazine creator or author should possess?
Discipline, tenacity, and creativity!

How do you balance your time between managing your own magazines, coaching, and your personal life as a wife and mother?
Balance is not real. I use time blocking to help me. I have a career, as well as a family, and businesses. It can get hard. I decided to hire help. That has really helped me out! I’m finding balance if that is a real thing.
What are some common misconceptions about launching a magazine, or writing a book, that you often address in your coaching sessions?
A common misconception is that a magazine will flop. That is only true if you don’t market your magazine, or if you don’t know who your buyer is. Another common misconception is that people don’t read magazines anymore. They do read them!
How do you keep yourself and your clients motivated during the challenging phases of publishing?
I do check-ins and previews. It helps us to be on the same page to finalize editing and prepare for launching.
What are your goals for the future in terms of coaching and helping others in their creative endeavors?
For the future, I hope to have coached more women in their magazine creation journeys, and to keep inspiring creative beings!
