What inspired you to start your cosmetics company?

My name is Asiaonna Eley. I am a 26 year old native from Cleveland, Ohio. I am the CEO and Founder of Fearless Faces LLC. Fearless Faces is a brand promoting self-worth, self-affirmation, and love in all women. The mission of Fearless Faces LLC is to create products that model and remind women of all kinds the love and beauty God has instilled in us, in addition to our skill and talent of beauty enhancement.

When did you first know that you wanted to become a licensed makeup artist?

Becoming a self-taught freelance Makeup Artist has always been my goal, but I didn’t know if it was attainable. In January 2020, I got the opportunity to work in the salon. I knew at that point that I needed to be licensed. Luckily, the Ohio State cosmetology board had an opportunity for me to be licensed. My salon owner helped me achieve this goal. Since then, I have gotten my own salon suite. I have licensed over twenty-two young women and one young man.

You have a beautiful brand name! What does "Fearless Faces Cosmetics" represent?

In May 2017, I reached out to one of my favorite beauty mogul’s, Tamia Hopson, who at the time had just started her own cosmetics line called Alter Ego Cosmetics, which is now rebranded and trademarked as Zhane Beauty Collection. Tamia is someone I looked up to because we both happened to be from Cleveland. Tamia helped me and encouraged me. Also, she provided me with beauty and business tips. On July 17,2017, Fearless Faces LLC was made official as a business through the State of Ohio. I was particular in getting my business in effect on this date because “7” is the number of completion and blessings, which is exactly what I wanted my business to exemplify. At that moment, my journey began. I was now fearless and unstoppable. Fearless Faces conveys that every woman is beautiful and should be herself, fearlessly.

What are some makeup services that you offer?

My makeup services have changed over the years! I offer natural and full face glam applications. I tell my clients natural glam is for the everyday look, simple but glam. Full face glam is for my girls who love blush, contour, and a bold lip and lash!  Also, I offer 1 on 1 makeup services for women and girls interested in learning makeup on themselves. I have Fearless Faces Makeup Academy for beginner and advanced Makeup-Artists with a 53 page manual outlining skilled techniques. As of last year, I am a top-tier Bridal Makeup-Artist as well. Each and every service is near and dear to me!

Do you have a favorite makeup product?

My favorite makeup product at the moment is Haus Labs blush. I am a blush finatic at this point!

How would you describe your makeup artistry style?

I would describe my makeup artistry style as sultry glam. I love bold, but natural looks. I’m a smokey eye with blush and nude lip type of artist. On the contrary, I love my artistic expertise to shine through, and step into bold glams with glitter and rhinestones. My style of artistry is to body any look my clients have in mind!

Can you provide the readers with a skincare tip that can give them a flawless makeup look before applying makeup?

Moisturizer is the true fountain of youth. Moisturizers form a barrier between the skin and the environment that holds water in the epidermis. They hydrate and plump up the skin so that it looks smooth and bright. The right moisturizer will enhance the look, feel, and health of the skin. It can even help temporarily eliminate fine lines and wrinkles. Moisturizers can also protect the skin from pollution, debris, and weather. The right skincare products help makeup go on smoothly, properly adhere to the skin, and last longer. The perfect skincare routine will be cleanser, toner, serums, moisturizers, and sunscreen.

Are there any challenges you've had to overcome as a makeup artist?

Absolutely! My biggest challenge was comparing and over criticizing my work. A lot of times it’s hard to not worry about and focus on anyone else's style of work, and finishing results.  Once I was able to overcome that, content creation and exploring new techniques became much easier!  As far as criticizing my work, I no longer stare at pictures to find every small thing that's wrong, nor do I try to look for it to be perfect. I appreciate my work for what it is, and I know that I will only get better.

What are some words of advice you can give to future makeup artists who want to open their own studio?

My word of advice would be to find your niche as a Makeup Artist, and don’t be so quick to follow trends!  Following trends could make you feel easily discouraged as you’re trying to perfect someone else’s style of makeup artistry. It’s okay to not like heavy blush, it’s okay to like matte lips versus gloss. Be who you are as an artist, and stand on it!

Outside of your business, what are some other hobbies that you enjoy?

I love reading and painting! Those are very calming activities for me. Also, I love, love, love shopping, and spending time with my family.
