What inspired you to start your author journey?
When I was in grammar school I knew that writing would be my artistry and voice. It’s going to be the tool that will help me express myself effectively. When I was ten years old, Lady E, my late maternal grandmother, told me I was going to write a book while cooking breakfast. I said, “Ok Grandma, but I kept it in the back of my mind. I wrote a biography on a female R&B singer two years before the pandemic. It was shelved due to editorial and copyright issues. However, by the time I was 30, seven people told me that I was going to write a book. Seven means completion.
During the pandemic, I decided to write, Jon B: Are You Still Down, my first published biographical book about R&B crooner Jon B. I decided to write a book about Jon B because he is a talented vocalist and producer who I believe doesn’t receive his flowers as an artist. He was the first Caucasian artist who worked with Jay-Z, Nas, the late Tupac Shakur, and Babyface. Over the years, several artists have sampled his signature song, “They Don’t Know,” which is still a R&B classic 27 years later. My fiance at the time gave me free range to write a book comfortably without worrying about the bills. During the pandemic, massage therapists weren’t working consistently, and writing gigs for freelance journalists were limited. Therefore, the Lucky Seven and the pandemic prompted me to write a book so I can change the lives of others through my words.

What inspired you to become a writing consultant?
Writing has always been a part of my life since first or second grade. As a child, I would write short stories. As I grew older, I began writing poetry. Working with words was always intriguing for me. I had my first piece of poetry published while in high school. Personally, academically, and professionally I find that writing in all forms is an art in and of itself. It doesn’t matter what it is; from project documentation, corporate communication/presentations, quality reports, white papers, and proposals to poems, short stories, journals, or self-help books, writing is everywhere and is a wonderful mode of expressing our ideas, thoughts, and emotions. We can learn a lot about ourselves through writing.
Writing can be healing too – whether you have an impactful story to share with others, or if you write to progress through your own emotions, or even find that you are writing to uncover some truth deep within – writing has the potential to take us on a journey to a higher way of being.
