More than a T-shirt, it's a movement

Your business name is so unique and cool? What does your business name represent?

As a black woman and single mother with a demanding career who has a variety of entrepreneurial aspirations and philanthropic pursuits, I have always prided myself on being multidimensional.  As I have ascended the corporate ladder and done some work in the diversity, equity and inclusion space, it has become increasingly evident that the ability to show up authentically in the spaces and places that we operate in each day really is a superpower and it deserves to be celebrated.  The whole premise of our brand is that you do NOT have to fit into a box!  Our brand is all about authenticity, balancing different responsibilities, being multidimensional, representation in different professions, and embracing exactly who you are.

What inspires you to create the phrases and slogans for your t-shirts?

I have always been a fan of a good graphic tee and the power they have to make a statement without having to say a word, so I decided to use these designs as a means to spread the messages that are near and dear to me… and that is how The Multifaceted Mama brand was born.  Our products make powerful statements and serve as an expression of pride in being unapologetically multi-passionate, multi-purposed, multi-talented and multifaceted.

Why is representation important to you?

While I didn’t have many real examples on the professional side, my mother was an amazing demonstration of the ability to shape shift and show up and get stuff done. She had a career deeply rooted in service and helping others (I refer to her as a saint), but she was also an entrepreneur on the side well before this side hustle culture was a thing and before I knew what entrepreneurship meant. She was a philanthropist in a very non-traditional sense, and while juggling ALL of these things, she was still a very dedicated mother, going out of her way to expose my brother and I to experiences and activities that she felt would benefit us and make us more well rounded human beings. So much of who my mother is has shaped who I am becoming as a woman and a mother.

More generally speaking…I truly believe that representation has the power to save lives and change lives, and that seeing people that look like us doing the things we aspire to do is invaluable. I am passionate about being an example, as well as finding and amplifying other representation stories for our future trailblazers to see.

Do you have a favorite way to style your t-shirts?

The brand color is MY color. So trust and believe I’m rocking my tee with a pop of that signature color.  Whether it’s my sneakers, my purse, or my boots, I’m gonna be on brand.  I also rock the signature color on my nails.  Regardless of the design, you’re going to see that “Multifaceted Teal”.

Can you tell us a little bit more about your affirmation cards?

I am a big believer in the power of speaking what you seek until you see what you have said. I’ve always been a vision board girl and I have a cork board of positive statements and my goals next to my bed as a constant reminder to myself to keep my eyes on the prize. The Multifaceted Manifestation Affirmation Cards were purposefully created with powerful affirmations to share some of this with the world and help others manifest the Multifaceted life of their dreams!  This deck of motivational statements was designed to provide the encouragement you need to set your intentions and strive for your goals.  Each affirmation prompts you to speak abundance, alignment, and positivity over your life.  There is really no right or wrong way to use your affirmation cards. You can add them to your vision boards or planner as a beautiful reminder to remain positive.  You can use the cards as a part of your daily routine to help set your intentions as you meditate or as journal prompts to get the juices flowing.  You can pull cards with a group of friends to spark conversation…The options really are endless.

I have had SO MUCH positive feedback about the cards and the affirmations and it brings me so much joy to be able to share that with the world.

Outside of being a CEO, what are some other hobbies that you enjoy?

Outside of raising a pretty remarkable 13 year old son, building The Multifaceted Mama brand, working my day job, and pouring into my philanthropic and outreach efforts, I am very deliberate about my “down time”.  I LOVE a tropical vacation, a good luxury spa day, and I have just recently gotten into pilates.

Have you faced any challenges as a CEO and entrepreneur?

My biggest challenge has been staying consistent and motivated.  This is really a passion project so I have to push myself to pour into it.  There are days when I want to throw in the towel, but I have a vision for what I want to build and that keeps me going.

What are some words of advice you can give to future entrepreneurs who want to startup a company?

My words of advice are to run YOUR race at YOUR pace. It is so easy to get distracted by what others are doing and sidetracked by the noise around you. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I know the only reason I have been able to make the progress I have is because I have tuned out everything else and almost hyper focused on what I am building.
