What inspired you to start your journey as a fashion designer?
I was inspired at age nine to start my journey as a fashion designer. It may sound weird, but I was bullied a lot in school as a child. In my art class, another student came to class with fashion sketches she got from her older sister. Her sister was in fashion college, and she would give her the sketches she no longer needed. This student would come to class with them and hand them out to all the girls in the class, except for me. One day, I sat watching as the sketches were being colored, and I said to myself (as I always do) that I know I can make that. I would use the back of my notebooks to draw the sketches. I did this every day after homework, during dinner, before school, and in school. Until, I finally got it. I started to think of different styles of clothes to draw in the sketches. My mother noticed I was drawing in my books. She got me a sketch pad and colored pencils. Then, I discovered one day the fashion shows they would air on TV in Paris and the New York Fashion Week. I would say that one day I'm going to be there with my designs. I started with Barbie dolls. I would cut different fabrics and make outfits by hand for the dolls. By the time I reached age thirteen, I knew how to use a sewing machine, how to cut fabric, how to hand sew, measure, and my skills started to grow.
